The Duke Angel Network (“DAN”) announced today an investment in RackN, Inc. (“RackN”), an Austin, Texas-based company providing a hybrid infrastructure automation platform for physical data center infrastructure and multi-cloud environments. The company’s clients include several large enterprises focused on bringing Google-like operational efficiencies to their infrastructure. Other investors in the company include SK Ventures, Juniper Ventures, and EVO Venture Partners.
The RackN flagship product, RackN Enterprise, provides a unified hybrid management layer, enabling a consistent management experience across multiple platforms, workloads, tools and container solutions, as well as cloud and physical infrastructure. RackN provides orchestration environments for automated node discovery, provisioning, configuration, and workload layering based on dynamic rules.
RackN Co-founder and CEO Rob Hirschfeld earned a B.S.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Duke, as well as an M.S. in Industrial Engineering from Louisiana State University. He previously worked in Dell’s cloud solutions business and was the Founder and CIO of ProTier, a virtualization software company acquired by Surgient in 2004.
“As long as choice and automation are core tenants in an IT operations strategy, managing complex technology will always be a problem.” said Mr. Hirschfeld. “We are hearing more and more from our prospects and customers their challenges in achieving Google-like automation at scale with their existing infrastructure, staff and tooling. The RackN vision is to take the guesswork out of making complex, disparate platforms work seamlessly together. We are incredibly excited the Duke Angel Network shares our vision and we look forward to leveraging and working with their network of incredibly successful high-tech industrialists and investor community.”
“Deployment and management of hybrid infrastructure environments continues to be a major pain point for large enterprises” said John Glushik, Managing Director of the Duke Angel Network, “We have been impressed with RackN’s solution and are excited to be working with the team.”
RackN provides a composable, template-driven, self-service software platform for automating multi-cloud and hybrid infrastructure lifecycle management. RackN software accelerates cloud migrations, reduces operational sprawl and guarantees repeatable workload deployment and upgrades across any platform. CIOs benefit by mitigating platform adoption risk, vendor lock-in, and operational dysfunction, as well as by reducing costs. RackN removes the trial-and-error approach operators take for complex cross-cloud and infrastructure deployment and management. Learn more at https://rackn.com/.
